The Snow Bunny Cowl [free pattern]

Happy New Year Everyone!!

I hope you all enjoyed your family and friends throughout the holiday season and started your new year off to a great start. I’m coming to you all with a new blog post and a free pattern!!

It’s freezing here in Michigan where I live and with the polar vortex that’s hitting us this week, we’re in need of warm chunky hats and scarves. The rest of the US isn’t getting a break from this crazy weather either. So I thought I’d make something that was super simple, beginner friendly and super warm and chunky and that’s how the Snow Bunny Cowl was born.

If you want to be warm and cozy here’s the pattern:

Materials

Lion Brand Home town USA (5oz, 81yds/74cm, 100% acrylic): 2 skeins

10mm hook

Yarn needle

Scissors

Gauge and Size

8 hdc x 6 rows= 4 in. (10.2cm) square

Width: 14 in. (35.5cm) Height: 9.5 in. (24cm)

Stitches Used

Chain- ch

Half double crochet- hdc

Front post half double crochet- fphdc

Back post half double crochet- bphdc

Slip Stitch- sl st.

Round- rnd

Pattern Notes

• This cowl is worked in the round.
• Ch. 1 does not count as a stitch.

Pattern Instructions

Ch. 52, sl st to the beginning ch to make a circle.

Rnd 1: Ch. 1, hdc in same st. as ch 1. Hdc in each st. around, sl st. to 1st hdc. (52)

Rnd 2: Ch. 1. Fphdc in same st. as ch. 1, bphdc around next st. *Fphdc in next st, bphdc in next st.* Repeat from *to *,sl st. to 1st hdc.

Rnd 3-14: Ch. 1. Hdc in same st. as ch.1 and in each st. around,sl st. to 1st hdc.

Rnd 15: Ch. 1. Fphdc in same st as ch. 1, bphdc around next st. *Fphdc in next st, bphdc in next st.* Repeat from * to*,sl st. to 1st hdc. Cut your yarn and weave in ends.
