Pattern Notes:
- Starting chains do not count as a stitch.
- This hat is worked in an even amount of stitches. If you prefer a more slouchy hat just add more stitches in an even count.
- For the beginning of the dc crossed st rounds, ch3, dc in next st then dc in same st as ch 3. Because the ch 3 is just for height you’ll need to place a dc in the same stitch to keep the even stitch pattern.
Pattern Instructions
Band:
Ch 10
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. (9sts)
Row 2: Sc in 1st st, sc in blo in next 7 sts, sc in last st.
Row 3-67: Repeat row 2.
Next fold band in half with 2 ends together and sl st both layers of the band to close. Turn band right side out so that the sl sts are on the inside of the band.
Body
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 72 sc sts around band, sl st to ch 1.
Rnd2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, hdc in each st around.
Rnd 3-4: Repeat rnd 2.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next st, dc in same stitch as ch 3. * skip in st,dc in next st, dc in skipped st*. Repeat from * to* 35x.
Rnd 6-8: repeat rnd 2.
Rnd 9: Repeat rnd 5
Rnd 10-12: Repeat rnd 2.
Rnd 13: Repeat rnd 5.
Rnd 14-16: Repeat rnd 2.
Rnd 17-18: Ch 2 hdc2tog in each st around.
Rnd 19-20: Ch1 sc3tog. Fasten off, leave a 5 inch tail to sew the remaining sts closed. Weave in ends.
